CHAD’S IDRISS DEBY GRACES INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT DENIS SASSOU NGUESSO.

Chad's field Marshal IDRISS DEBY ITNO, accompanied by First Lady, HINDA DEBY ITNO and some members of government took part in the inauguration ceremony of Congo President elect Dénis Sassou Nguesso in Brazzaville on Friday 16th April.

He was welcomed on his descent from the plane by Congolese Prime Minister Clément MOUAMBA. Alongside the Chadian presidential couple who graced the event were at least 20 other African heads of states and governments.

Nguesso 77 was re-elected for a 4th term on March 21st after grabbing 88.57% of votes. He defeated six opponents led by his main rival, Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas, who died of Covid-19 shortly before the election.

The newly elect has set a mighty challenge for the country, that of curbing its reliance on revenue from oil and to grow more food.

President Deby who was candidate to a peaceful April 11 presidential elections whose result is being awaited, has always kept good ties with his neighbouring counterparts of the continent. He equally is much respected for his fearless battle against Boko haram insurgencies and his efforts towards restoring peace and stability in his country and the Sahel region which has for years been prey to Jihadist attacks. Both Chad and Congo share strong diplomatic and bilateral relations which date from decades ago. The presidential couple will be back to the country by Saturday.
